"DO YOU KNOW
WHERE THE FUCK YOU AREEEEEEEEE?!?!" Yes I fucking do! I'm
celebrating my birthday with Guns N' FUCKING Roses! Ah what
an awesome birthday right, two GNR shows at a perfect venue
like this!!
Well where to start went over to the Hard Rock around 4:30PM
and there wasn't anyone lined up inside, so we walked around
and stuff and eventually found out from someone that the
line started outside. We went out there and were like 20th
in line! Robin Finck walked by, about 45 mins before I got
inline, and I saw him shook his hand and stuff, he was
talking to another fan.
So we're inline and they decide to take us inside, and
lineup by the slot machines and stuff. A guy walks over and
asks me if I'm under 21, I say of course and they take me
outside. All minors had to lineup outside because of the
slots, but we got in first!! It was amazing!
So we get into the venue and I'm 2 feet away from the stage,
right in the middle!!! A lady walks around giving a setlist
to people and a guy by me asks for one, and she was
reluctant but ended up giving it to him. (Theres a picture
of the setlist floating around somewhere)
So Phantom Planet comes on and they're not that bad, IMO.
The lead singer was so drunk and stoned it was funny. Haha,
but I think that they were pretty good. I would have loved
to see A7X or Sebastian open for GNR, but these guys worked
fine.
Before GNR the usual roadies come out testing everything,
the drums, Pittman's synthesizer and all that. They tested
the guitars and all that stuff, and I SWEAR TO GOD, one was
Izzy's guitar. Maybe he was planned to come and something
came up, but I freaking know it was it. I'm going to get a
picture tonight if they test it again!
The lights go down and the intro starts up, everyone went
fucking nuts. Usual WTTJ/ISE/Brownstone...but it never gets
old to me. Before LALD, he said he was visiting cancer
patients a couple weeks ago, and then he told the story
about Paul McCartney's kids saying "Hey dad, I think it's
awesome you cover a GNR song!!!" Axl loved that, he was
laughing at it so much.
Robin did his solo, right into SCOM and that tore the house
down. All the girls were screaming and EVERYONE was singing
along! It was great! During Better and a couple other songs
Axl was really pissed off at the sound guy and was motioning
for them to turn something down. It was visibly pissing him
off but Axl shrugged it off and did his best to work through
it.
The most touching part of the night, IMO, was when Axl
jumped up on the Piano during "The Blues" he was fucking
tearing it up and it was so heavy and emotional. During band
intros, he introduces everyone and goes to introduce
Bumblefoot, he says "And now..Ron.." and security right by
me RIPS this guy out of the crowd, someone said he was
throwing stuff. But Axl waited, laughed and said that guy
had bad aim.
After Patience, Tommy walks over to Axl and whispers
something in his ear, and then Axl goes "MR STINTSON has a
request. I'm not too sure they're going to want to hear this
Tommy, but we'll see what they think. (Or something similar)
Do you guys want to hear Rocket Queen?" THE PLACE WENT NUTS...So
they play that and end it with Nightrain.
During the like "break" between Nightrain and the encore,
Stintson walks back on stage sneaking around, and goes "SHHH!!"
with his finger and everyone by me got a chuckle out of it.
Madagascar was the best rendition I've seen, maybe that’s
because I was two feet away but I don’t know, it was awesome.
Show ended with PC and during it, Axl was TREMENDOUSLY
pissed off and walked off stage during it yelling at Merck
and the sound guy. Tommy and all guitarists sung for pretty
much the whole time but Axl did end up coming back on stage
towards the end of PC. He ripped it up towards the end and
it was fucking amazing!
Overall, it was an amazing show, best concert I've been to.
Great birthday present! I saw some guys with video cams, so
there is footage out there, I guarantee it. One retard had
his light on for about 5 minutes, and then he realized that
that was a bad idea. I took all my pics with no flash, so I
didn't get caught and my ears are still ringing.
**side notes** Axl threw the mic stand and almost took Brain
out. It hit Brain's cymbal and Brain and Axl both smiled and
laughed...Beta ran on stage during some song (forget which
one)!! But she ran to get the mic stand that Axl chucked and
was about to trip over it...Robin tripped during the show,
and Axl and him laughed it off and helped each other up...Robin
went down right against the barrier, off the stage and was
right in front of my face and I touched his guitar, it was
amazing...Axl was shaking hands right by me, and I got one!!
It was excellent!!

Ok Guys, heres
my review. I went to the Rainbow agian at about 5:30,
started drinkin, didnt quit until 4am . Anyways, the show
started and ended a bit later than Saturday. As you've
already seen, same setlist, Used to love her instead of
Rocket Queen. I skipped Hoobastank, went in about 10 minutes
after they finished. Once Jungle started, got to the front
pretty much right away. Robin was so wasted i got to hug
him when he came down in front. During one song he sat down
onstage and faced his amps and played for a couple minutes.
At the end of patience, something happend, Axl ran of stage,
I could see him yelling at someone, then right after that,
and for the rest of the show, merck was running back and
forth in front of the stage, almost like they were looking
for someone. I was able to hear Axl a lot more tonight, he
was way louder in the mix. At the end of Used to Love her,
Axl said soemthing to the effect "We invited Izzy, he's off
racing his truck in Mexico, but hes here in spirit" all in
all, great show, I'm mad that the weekends over, oh well, I
get to see them again in 2 weeks in bakersfield!!
Ok, the one moment that pissed me off.....I REALLY wanted
the mic......Oh, and I noticed that Axl uses a different Mic
for Paradise that he throws. Anyways, at the very end of
Paradise, I moved back to the middle of the floor, where I
saw the mic go the ngiht before. He throws it, goes rght
over my head, I turn around, people are all jumping for it,
i saw it get kicked, and I jump for it....i was 12 inches
away....ya know what happend? Security was throwing people
out of the way, and a security guard got it....that pisses
me off...that is something for the fans, i was pissed, but
oh well, nothign I can do about it, great fuckin show!!

KNockin on heaven's door.
Axl dovrebbe aver fatto la parte"i sing one and you sing...".
Pubblico molto coinvolto e reattivo.
"The ballad "era solo un'improvvisazione country per
introdurre Bach.
Alcune

eche fumava erba.

Ok questa è la mia piccola
review:
The Blues e Madagascar eseguite in sicurezza mentre Better
e IRS ancora un po' incerrto.
Comunque grandioso.

quinta volta (Las Vegas 01, Minneapolis 02, Fargo 02 e
produzione solista e 5 vecchi pezzi degli Skid Row: 18 and
Life, Piece of Me, I Remember You, Monkey Business, e
Youth Gone Wild!
certe condizioni.
Sweet child e ha fatto bolgia su You could be mine;
Dizzy era in
tour europeo. Sebastian Bach è salito usl palco per My
My Michelle e Nightrain
scemo stampato in faccia per l'intero show.
L'energia della folla era incredibile. Tutti cantavano
ogni canzone. Specialmente all'inizio, la gente cantava
così forte che quasi coprivano la musica. Grande
Buona come è sempre stata, e forse anche
meglio!
presenza scenica.
I musicisti? molto buoni.

Fantastico, incredibile, mozzafiato, 1992-revisted...
subito.
Band è stata fantastica. Stesso set, eccetto la grossa
sorpresa della serata: USED TO LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!

Sesso,droga e
rock n'roll ieri sera.
nulla in confronto a Youth gone wild etc.
paragonabile all'intro di"Welcome to the jungle"e quando
attacca"You know where the fuck you are",puoi solo sapere
suonato"Madagascar"e"Rocket queen".Molto bello assolo
su"November rain"è in gamba.

Su I used to love her,un fan ha scavalcato ed è riuscito
dell'arena.

Even on a sticky Halloween night in Florida, with much of the
crowd in costume and spooky holiday decor swinging from the
rafters, nothing could quite out-weird the main spectacle:
watching 1/8th of Guns N' Roses perform a batch of 20-year-old
smashes -- as well as a few from a record originally slated
for release during the first Clinton administration -- in
front of, among other things, a large and inflatable Homer
Simpson balloon.
Welcome to the jungle, kids. We've got fun and games.
Or, more accurately, welcome to whatever this is. Well, what
do you call this ragged Frankenstein's monster of a band these
days: GNR of the 21st Century? Guns Minus Everyone But Axl?
The GNR Experience Feat. Mr. Rose And His Band Of Merry
Pranksters? Or, in a time when nostalgia rock is about the
only safe bet, when Queen can tour without Freddie and half of
the Who is one of the biggest games in town, is 2006 Guns N'
Roses merely another case of Hardly Authentic But Good Enough?
Needless to say, one puts up with a lot in catching the
remnants of GNR these days (to be fair, it's actually 1/4th of
the classic lineup, if you count keyboardist Dizzy Reed).
There's the wacky stage time (a classically Rose-ian midnight
on a Tuesday), the wearying wait for an alleged new record and
the small matter of all the Guns exiles who don't come around
anymore.
But maybe the strangest thing is that for all its
some-assembly-required vibe, Rose's band knows how to tear up
an arena show. Sure, these are hired hands, and Slash would be
pleased to know that Rose requires three guitarists to replace/recreate
him: ex NIN-ster Robin Finck, now a dead ringer for Matisyahu;
journeyman Richard Fortus; and, replacing Buckethead, Ron Thal,
who goes by Bumblefoot. You can't make this stuff up. But
these guys bring the noise.
Moreover, Rose, impossibly, frustratingly, remains as
galvanizingly watchable a frontman as you're likely to find
anywhere. The charisma? Enviably intact. The vocals? Strained,
but often thrilling. The drive is back, too -- sometime
between Guns' aborted 2002 run and today, Rose relocated his
give-a-damn, and he prowls the stage with an intensity and
ambition that sometimes outweighs his reach, but is crazy to
witness. When he's on and his voice is doing age-defying
triple salchows on "Welcome to the Jungle" and "It's So Easy,"
he's cornrowed lightning.
And for about half of the two-hour set, that's all you really
need. Tracks like "Jungle," "Mr. Brownstone" and even "Live
and Let Die" are meteor impacts -- so much so, in fact, that
Rose adhered almost exclusively to songs from about 1987. This
night, he was solely interested in the most glorious of the
glory days, bringing out the big, boozy, misogynistic WMDs
from "Appetite" ("Nightrain," "Out Ta Get Me," "My Michelle")
-- and only invited songs from the "Use Your Illusion" discs
that originated in the "Appetite" era, like "November Rain"
and "You Could Be Mine." He's consciously blacking out a
decent chunk of catalog here.
But all the grand setup leads into a weird payoff. Because
after a massive opening salvo, reality begins to creep in with
"Better," allegedly the first single from the new album (the
expensive-looking Eastern backdrop indicated Rose remains
apparently serious about this "Chinese Democracy" thing).
Chunky riffs aside, "Better," charitably speaking, ain't no "Brownstone."
And due to lots of things -- that inhospitable stage time (for
which a smirking Rose denied credit), his penchant for
vanishing from the stage for long stretches (though it added
to his enigmatic legacy, one begins to wonder if he's really
up to this) and pacing issues, the show begins to grow cold
and distant, despite the valiant efforts of its frontman.
Oh, and this keeps coming up, too: Who the hell are these
people?
Rose's minions are dressed like a ragtag pomo art outfit:
keyboardist Chris Pittman's in an ivory-white suit, Tommy
Stinson rocks plaid pants, and Bumblefoot has the name
Bumblefoot. All have creative Tomorrowland haircuts (it was
hard to tell what was a Halloween costume and what wasn't).
But Rose has them faithfully recycle songs and solos as
recorded by another guy 20 years ago. He takes great pains to
project a vibe of forward-thinking, then consents to a jarring
cameo by cornball Sebastian Bach, who in his opening set
performs a song called "Love Is a Bitch Slap" to emphasize all
you don't miss about buttless-chaps metal.
He adheres to a schedule of L.A. rock club ethics that doesn't
so much apply in Jacksonville early in the week. And he grants
all three guitarists interminable, momentum-killing solos;
Fortus used his to jam on Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful,"
and you weren't sure what his intentions were, much like
you're not sure what Rose's are.
Axl is capable of transcendent power: "Paradise City" seethed
and roared, "You Could Be Mine" worked up a mighty head of
steam and if there's a better way to open a rock show than
with "Welcome to the Jungle," someone E-mail me about it. And
Rose seemed to be alternately salivating at and resentful of
the challenge of carrying this load on his shoulders.
But to what end? In the sense that anticipation is generally
better than the experience (I'm looking at you, god-awful
"Star Wars" prequels), the mystique of Rose's alleged
"Democracy," if you're not bored of the entire episode in the
first place, will spot-evaporate the day it's released. One
wonders if Rose wouldn't be better served to leave it in the
can until he's 60 and then bingo, it's "Smile."
In those glory days, Guns N' Roses was just about as good it
got. But its hole card now is an album that might not exist,
and once "Democracy" rises and falls, Guns N' Roses, which can
now maintain a spooky sense of mystery, will be very likely
trading the night train for the nostalgia train, whoever the
hell's in it. But in the meantime, GNR still can rock your
night, or early morning, with a primal power. Just bring a
friend to help carry along the baggage.

Ok just got
back and it was GREAT. The set list was perfect. The song
choices were by far the best so far. For anyone who says
these are just hired hands don't know what the hell they
are talking about. This band has chemistry! Axl was full
of smiles tonight and seemed to be at ease. His voice was
very strong. The only problem that I heard was the music
got to be a little louder than him, so sometimes we
couldn't hear him very well, but it was taken care quickly,
and not a big deal at all. I have to admit, I have been a
total Slash supporter before this concert but I think
Finck fits the bill even better. He has a passion for
playing that Slash unfortunally never had even back in the
day. I got to meet Tommy and Fred back stage and they were
both wonderful guys. Bumblefoot had a smile on his face
the whole time on stage. No one ever looked like there
were running out of steam ever! I have to say this concert
was better than when I saw the original line up in 91. I
hope ticket sales do pick up, because people really don't
know what there missing. Axl was in a great mood, NO RANTS
TONIGHT!! I just wish he would had talked to us more. All
in all other than a few fights while we were waiting, and
yes we did wait, GNR didn't start till almost 12:00 but
they played untill 2:00 it was a perfect night. Axl did
change clothes alot but his style was right on for a rock
and roller such as himself. I didn't get there in time to
see Bac, but Papa Roach was really good even though there
not a fav band of mine. They did a good job and was very
fun to watch.

minuti e la band ha jammato parecchio. The Blues
assolutamente grande.

Prima di Down on the farm Axl ha detto"Bene, questa canzone

male l'hai eseguita coi Gnr soltanto il 7 Aprile

Continental Airline Arena, East Rutherford, NJ
Sebastin Bach came on around
8:30p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Bach played a nice set. Bach played
Piece Of Me, 18 and Life, I Remember You, Monkey Business
and Youth Gone Wild were just a few of the songs Bach
played. Then Papa Roach played from 9:40p.m. to 10:40p.m.
Papa Roach was not as bad as I thought they would be. Some
songs that Papa Roach played were Scars, Getting Away With
Murder, Broken Home and Last Resort. Around 11:20p.m.
Someone said they were having technical difficulties with
the keyboards and Axl and Guns N’ Roses are in the arena.
Guns N’ Roses came out around 11:40p.m.
Right after Mr. Brownstone Axl said, you can’t blame my
sorry ass tonight for the delay. After NR Axl said, you
guys are great tonight and thank you for it but if a few
people don’t stop throwing things on the stage they will
go home. After one of the songs Axl said, again you guys
are great tonight maybe we might do something diffent and
also said, I think we will be staying here awhile. During
My Michelle when Bach came out he said, what do you think
NJ want Axl to live here also? Axl said, something like
you never know. During Nightrain when Axl was on the right
side of the stage he almost got hit be something. I think
they may have cut the set one or two songs short because
of it. I was on the floor in the VIP section on the right
side of the stage in row two by the machine that shots the
paper out at the end of Paradise City. Well next up MSG
and then Baltimore.

I just got
back, good show.
Oh and it ended at 2:00am, you want a fucking longer show
than that? What the hell is wrong with these idiots.
Sound problems as usual for Axl, iI thought he would have
fired his sound guy by now. Robin ended up throwing three
different guitars to the stage in fustration, maybe he
broke a sting on one and didn't like the sound of the
second, who knows. Ron was exceptional tonight, owning
that don't cry solo. Oh and Dizzy got one of the bigger
ovations for his piano solo, I was pretty much front row
and his finger work is amazing on the piano. I was in awe.
Axl dedicated OTGM to the Fire Marshal at Portland, and
thanked the Worcestor Fire Marshal for being so cool. At
the end of the show they all stayed on stage for a while
and Axl thanked everyone for coming, and especially the
people who drove down from Maine because of the canceled
show. It was a packed house, not many empty seats at all.
Same solos as every other show.
Axl gave us a nice K-Fed impersonation too, before playing
November Rain. He had us give Britney and Federline a
moment of silence, but instead of quiet he got a bunch of
boos and jeers. The band had a good time with that, and
towards the end Axl brought it up again and got an even
bigger reaction. He did the "West Coast" symbol and said
"Word" when imitating K-fed haha.

Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY
Just got back
from the show!. What a difference a few days make!. I knew
that this show would make up for the NJ sjow......
I got to MSG during the last song of Bachs set. Papa Roach
was solid. ...
WHat can I say about GNR? I mean they tore the roof down
yet again. NYC and GNR make for an incredible show. The
place was packed and ready to party. As expected every old
song was sung word for word with great intensity. A good
part of the time I couldnt even here Axl because the crowd
was so dam loud. This is how a rock show should be.
Everyone should experience GNR at MSG. There is nothing
that beats it.
Every song was basically a highlight. Better and IRS
really stood out tonight. As well as November Rain and
Patience. The band was perfect. Played with such passion
and energy. And the crowd was into the band. You can tell
very easily that this crowd was intot he new band,
cheering th enew guys A LOT more than in 02. Its not even
close. ROns solo was great tonight. Robing crowd surfing.
Great show. Pittman with the phat white suit.
I love this band. The quiet arrogance, energy, passion, chemistry,
and straight in ur face rock is unmatched.
All I can tell you is to make it your business to travel
to see this band at MSG. case closed. You will not regret
it. trust me

Fantastico, incredibile, mozzafiato, 1992-revisted...
subito.
Band è stata fantastica. Stesso set, eccetto la grossa
sorpresa della serata: USED TO LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!

moglie.Lo show è stato molto bello.Bach sa intrattenere le
folle.
pieno.MOLTO MEGLIO DEL 2002...
i Gnr han cominciato a suonare alle 23 e 40 ,10 minuti dopo
che i tecnici finivano d montargli strumentazione.Per l'urlo
Axl ha avuto problemi e si è sentito solo"Where you are..."
Su Welcome to the jungle tutti pogavano e diventavano
matti, anche su It's so easy e Mr Brownstone era
on Heaven's door cantavano tutti...Assolo di Robin ben
recepito...

Scotiabank Place , Ottawa, ON, Canada
Axl and G N'
R give Ottawa a command performance
By ANN MARIE McQUEEN -- Ottawa Sun
OTTAWA - One thing is for sure, no matter what you think
of the man, the assembled band or the notion itself: Axl
Rose brought it to Scotiabank Place when he played into
the wee hours of yesterday morning.
It doesn't matter whether you see the equally reviled and
revered 44-year-old as an obnoxious relic-brat who refuses
to go quietly, a next-generation symbol of everything
bad-ass, or a man capable of delivering steel-melting
vocals that can transport a person back to 1990 in an
note. There was no denying that over 10,000 fans who took
in a two-hour, 20-minute show were in the presence of a
true rock star.
So much has been written about Rose and the band of six
assembled musicians that make up the modern-day Guns N'
Roses, only without the Slash. Cancelled shows, Rose's
tendency to be cranky and arrogant and strange, the
mythical Chinese Democracy album more than 10 years in the
making, the way this tour starts playing each show when
they are good and ready.
No one in Kanata on Friday night seemed to care about all
that. Though the last part turned out to be true: After
opening acts including Skid Row's Sebastian Bach and the
chocolate sauce-implementing burlesque show Suicide Girls
were through, it was nearly midnight.
The motley assembled crowd was about to burst when ex-Nine
Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finch finally appeared, leaning
down and teasing the front row with the first blistering
licks of Welcome to the Jungle.
They went bananas when Rose came out: the short cornrows
tied back in a ponytail, fierce face torqued up with a
full-on goatee, wraparound shades, leather shirt open low
to reveal a big silver cross, and ripped jeans.
"Do you know where the f--- you are?" he screamed to a sea
of gleefully pointing fingers.
And then they were off, turning in one of the best rock
shows in recent Ottawa memory. There were the favourite
tunes: Heroin ode Mr. Brownstone, the wicked Patience, with
Rose whistling the interludes.
The crowd was obviously acquainted with new tune Better,
many singing along, and adored over-the-top covers of Live
and Let Die and Knockin' on Heaven's Door.
The biggest surprise of the night was just how hard Rose
sings for his supper. The voice was still astonishing, if
unreliable at key times -- sadly, on the wicked stripper
anthem Sweet Child 'O Mine -- and at others, overpowered
by the trio of guitars. But whether he was pounding a
grand piano's keys on November Rain, or spinning around in
a hard-core backwards one-foot spin as fireworks rained
down on the stage during the explosive final moments of
show-closer Paradise City, Rose worked harder than
expected.
Playing to the crowd, dancing, running, and that instantly
recognizable back-and-forth rocking dance of his, it was
no wonder Rose goes through what has been a heavily
criticized half-dozen costume changes per show: The man
works up a fearsome sweat.
It's not as if there was nothing to do while he was
changing: each of the musical interludes provided serious
entertainment. It's not often you see a grand piano
wheeled out on stage for a stirring solo, courtesy of an
Ottawa Senators sweater-wearing Dizzy Reed. There were
duelling guitars on a hard-core instrumental version of
Christina Aguilera's You're Beautiful, and a blistering O
Canada. So many guitar solos, so little time. The
progressively drunken stage appearances by the
rum-and-coke wielding, F-bomb dropping Trailer Park Boys
were an added bonus to a night that would have been a gong
show were it not so fun.
Shenanigans aside, in the words of a guy sitting beside
me, the crowd had one goal.
"I just want to see Axl, man."
They got him, and a more genuine, and generous,
smile-cracking version than anyone expected.

Quebec, QC, Canada
Just got back
from the Quebec city concert, here's a quick review before
I go to bed.
CONCLUSION: This concert beat all GNR concerts I have been
by FAR. Why? Because the energy was INCREDIBLE because the
crowd was so energetic and responsive.
Setlist available here.
RANTS: After Live & Let Die, Axl made a small rant "This
is Quebec City, not Montreal.." at wich point the crowd
simply booed him (Yep, you could tell there was lots of
people from Montreal tonight). Axl didn't get mad or
anything, he simply smiled and said "How to have a great
thing going and fuck it up" at wich point he just left it
there and went on to sing KOHD.
During KOHD, someone handed a cardboard to Axl. The
cardboard read "Axl come back to Montreal". Axl smiled and
showed it to the camera and the band members. The crowd
cheered very loudly at wich point you could hardly hear
the song anymore.
The crowd was simply extatic during November Rain.
PROS:
The crowd has a unequaled energy to date in this tour.
People stood up the WHOLE concert INCLUDING the solos!
Crowd was extremely responsive, would sing along
Left and right focus was adjusted
Axl's voice was VERY strong in the sound system
Axl Rose was more present on stage than usual (less going
backstage)
Smoking cigarettes was tolerated EVERYWHERE in the arena
Was nice not to have to go have to hide in the washroom or
go outside in the cold to smoke. Smoking weed was probably
not, but for people who were doing it discretely and
behaving, security would simply look the other way.
CONS:
Small WTTJ intro scream (not really a con, just that I
guess I like a strong intro scream).
Tonight's concert was a HUGE success. I suspect it to be
the most responsive crowd on this tour to date. Axl Rose
actually came back on stage after the usual closing to
thank us and to mention that he is looking forward to see
us again! Really hope this paves the way for GNR's return
in Montreal in the near future!

REVIEW DI UN FAN
Capisco
qualcuno ricorda a Milano cosa è successo?
vendere + biglietti).Quando Mary comprò i biglietti
sentita dire sta cosa.
e passa....

Lo show
-Scherzavano molto sui poliziotti svedesi e ne han messo
un modellino anche sul palco.
-Grandi luci e fuochi d'artificio.
70000 persone
-La voce di Axl incredibile-

Harbour Station,Saint John, NB
In the famed
words of Axel himself, "oooohhh, it was the best time I
can remember!"
Last night, I dream totally came true for me. My teenage
thrill came to life in a unbelieveable mix of sights,
sounds and pyrotechnics. :) The night opened with the
Dynamics (?). Honestly, I can't remember the group's name.
They were pretty good, but not my cup of tea. They came on
about 8:35 for a half hour.
After a break, the Suicide Girls came on. Well, it was
interesting to say the least. 5 girls stripping basically.
Certainly they were great entertainers. I know I couldn't
use a hoola-hoop like that. :) I did feel awkward for the
12 year old (and under) kids in the audience. Definitely
an adult only show. The SG were on for a half hour. Then
they set
up for the Trews. They came on about 10 o'clock and played
solid for an hour. Unreal! Of course the signature song I
wanted to hear ("Not ready to go") was second last on the
set list. D!OH!
After the Trews left the stage, the crew came to set up
for GNR. It was so exciting and the anticipation just kept
building. It didn't feel like "are they on YET" at all!
Just when they finished the sound check, they raised part
of the staging...applause. Then the crowd settled for a
while till the next bit of staging took form...more
applause. Then at 11:55, the lights
dimmed and the crowd LOST IT!!!! Everyone was freaking out
just waiting for a glimpse of the band!! GNR took the
stage an opened with "Welcome to the Jungle". Un-freakin'-real!!
Everyone was on their feet and remained so for 4 or 5
songs. I felt like I was in "The Surreal Life". Here was
my teen idol on stage. And I'm in the audience witnessing
the whole event. All night I kept thinking to myself...'How
am I so fortunate to be here?? I can't believe I'm
actually here...and he's actually there!!'
GNR didn't stop for over 2 hours!!!!!! In that time I
believe there were just 3 songs I didn't recognize (off
their new album...which I want to get asap!). They played
all the faves...Paradise City, You Could Be Mine, My
Michelle, Patience, November Rain, Sweet Child O'Mine...and
the list goes on. In between sets, they had one of the
band mates do a few songs solo (instrumental). Dizzy on
keyboards came centre stage and played
amazing dramatic music on piano. Couldn't name the tune
but it was incredible...and also surreal to see this
rockin', tattooed guy playing piano so beautifully. There
were 3 guitarists who also took turns playing solo. One of
the guys did "Oh Canada" on electric guitar. Amazing! I
felt so honoured and proud. The other two performed
Christina Agulara's (sp? )"Beautiful" together. Awesome
job!!
And the highlight of the night...the Trailer Park Boys!
Julian, Ricky and Bubbles take the stage...Bubbles with
guitar in hand. He reaches the mike and says, "Here's a
tune I play down at the Legion...it's called Liquor &
Whores". The audience went nuts! Everyone sang along. I
felt so happy for Mike (Bubbles). Here he is coming from
the Trailer Park to playing on stage
with Axel Rose. How cool is that??!! Even after they left
the stage, Axel sang the chorus again. He said something
about adding them to the tour. I was too cool!! The show
wrapped up around 2 a.m. with a 15 minute encore. It was a
truly amazing night and a huge dream come true for me!
Special thanks to AM for suppling the last minute tickets.
And for my partner in cheering, DH, for screaming
alongside me and driving my tired a$$ home. And a shout
out to Shay...sorry you missed it baby! I rocked extra
hard for you!!!!

I was there,
just got home, great show. no major surprises, but solid
all around. missed suicide girls, thought eodm might be
first. too bad, wanted to see them. sebastian bach is a
great opener, he just gets the crowd into it. his great
line was, " i went to the rock and roll hall of fame, and
said, wheres the kiss stuff? no kiss? what the fuck? at
least i thought i'd see some boots or something" or
something like that. stepped out for eodm, but they just
play dead on stage when i peaked in for a sec. dunno what
happened with them, but sg did come on for three songs
around 11:10 or so. guns hit around 12:00am. played till
2:15 or so. yeah axl said something like "lucky for us
this is their last night!" his monitor was fucked all
night, kept putting it in, taking it out. after taking
bows, he took the mic, with a fairly full crowd out there,
and said thanks again, especially since it "was a shit
day, shit night with sound, but i tried hard and we had a
great fucking time". another time he said, "to all those
who came to the show in 2002, cleveland and cincinatti
were the two best (or two fo the best, can't remember)
shows we played, and we are glad to be back."
he looked great, band sounded good, no "beautiful" solo,
good solos overall. great show all around!

The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hillss, MI
Our ears are
ringing and our clothes still carry a faint whif of kona
megabud from the communal haze at the Guns 'n Roses
concert last night. Axl and crew started the show at
quarter to midnight and jammed until after 2 am (no doubt
the management at The Palace was less than pleased). Late
concerts like this harken back to the day, say twenty-five
years ago, when bands like The Rolling Stones and The Who
ruled the arena rock circuit. Nowadays, try getting
geriatrics like Mick and Keef or Daltrey and Townsend to
play past eleven o'clock- not gonna happen!
From start to finish, Gn'R embodied everything that is
missing from today's rock music: energy, edginess, and
exceptional musical talent. Compared to the invertebrates
that inhabit the sludge of contemporary album rock, Gn'R
is an organism more akin to a gray wolf or a bengal tiger-
reclusive, intelligent, and powerful. Biologist theorize
that when major carnivores are removed from an ecosystem,
the natural balance shifts towards an over-abundance of
rodents and other low-functioning lifeforms. The same can
be said for today's music scene, so after a decade-long
absence, we hope the re-surfacing of Gn'R is for real.
All day long, local radio stations were broadcasting
updates as to whether or not Axl Rose would show up. The
prognosis was good- Guns had toured Europe and other
American cities and other than a couple of dates that were
cancelled well in advance, the shows occurred without
incident. But you never know with Axl- at the 2002 show at
The Palace, he threw his mike down and left for the night-
right in the middle of Patience. When it became obvious he
wasn't going to return, 12,000 fans were left wondering if
they should be pissed or grateful he played most of the
setlist before storming off the stage.
Nothing like that happened during yesterday's- er, today's
show. Instead, Axl was in good spirits (at one point, he
even commented how well the night was going), and his
performance reflected the mood. Flanked by some of the
best unknown guitarists in the business, he sampled
generously from the Gn'R canon of old as well as presented
several new songs. For those of you in a city they have
yet to play, we hope Axl's good mood lasts awhile.

Allstate Arena, Chicago, IL
When last
seen at the Allstate Arena, in 2002, Guns N' Roses had
retooled its lineup and was previewing tracks from its
years-in-the-making album, "Chinese Democracy." Pyro and
fireworks exploded, guys not named Slash played fancy
guitar solos, and the songs from "Appetite for Destruction"
still sounded unbeatable.
On Monday at the same venue, it was 2002 all over again.
The Gunners lineup had once again been shuffled around
singer Axl Rose, and "Chinese Democracy" had still not
been released. Several songs from that endlessly
forthcoming album were once again trotted out to little
notice, but "Sweet Child O' Mine" and the rest of the
"Appetite" tracks still rolled through the joint like a
freight train on fire. There were more long guitar solos
by Slash stand-ins, and the pyro was still hot enough to
flush cheeks in the lower balcony.
If Rose and his revolving door of bandmates sound like
they're spinning their wheels, that didn't bother an
audience that filled the arena to three-quarters capacity
and lingered through three opening acts and a
two-hour-plus Gunners set that didn't end till nearly 2
a.m. They came to relive the era when Rose, Slash, Duff
McKagen, Izzy Stradlin and Stephen Adler put the sleaze
back in Sunset Strip rock 'n' roll, and sold millions upon
millions of records. Since his 1987-92 heyday, Rose has
managed to alienate all his sidekicks and many of his fans.
Now he stands alone atop GNR, but there's the inescapable
notion that it is now more of a brand than a band.
Monday's show was a polished procession of oldies and a
smattering of new tracks. Rose's recent material sounded
more labored than the swaggering older material. The "Chinese
Democracy" songs were outfitted in once-trendy touches,
such as trip-hop beats, but they already sound dated. The
fans were unmoved. They came to hear "Appetite" played in
its entirety, and Rose played most of it. Night-prowling
anthems "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City" framed
the concert, and "Mr. Brownstone," "Sweet Child O' Mine,"
"It's So Easy," "Nightrain" and "My Michelle" (which Rose
sung with opener Sebastian Bach) still packed a wallop.
Rose's snake dancing charisma isn't what it once was. With
his beefier frame, sun-glasses, and braids pulled back in
a pony tail, he looked like one of those oily '80s talent
scouts who once might've signed Guns N' Roses. But when
his yowl wasn't badly undermixed, as it was in the early
portion of the show, it still cut like a rusty blade. He
was at his best on "Patience," first whistling the melody,
then crooning it with grizzled authority against a subdued
acoustic backdrop.
The singer was unfailingly gracious, and the set rolled
along without a hint of trouble. The musicians around him,
including bassist Tommy Stinson and guitarists Robin Finck,
Richard Fortus and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, sounded
well-rehearsed. They were pros doing what pros do when on
six-figure retainers.
And so the night was a journey along the back road of
mega-stardom, where professionalism rules. Like Mick
Jagger, Rod Stewart, the Gallagher brothers and countless
others, Rose is just the latest rock 'n' roll rogue to
take final refuge in its comforts.

Hilton Coliseum, Ames, IA
GOt there at 7:30, wanted to see
everything. Some band from St Louis played for 30 min, then
suicide girls then bach then helmet then GNR. Show started at
roughly 12:40??? The crowd was restless early, buy Axl and
crew had them won over by the time SCOM had ended. We were
seated on fincks side, parquet, 3 rows up. Great seats and had
an awesome view of the "behind the scenes" stuff. My wife and
I even got Beta to wave to us Highlight for me from this show
was Madagascar -Axl nailed it better then any other show I
have heard (and I have damn near every boot available from 02
thru this year). No real downers, the band was very tight and
was on top of their game. I suppose if you are trying to
criticize you could bitch about the show time. Axl apologized
and mentioned the weather. I believe him 100% in his sincerity
regarding the later then normal start. He also made another
EODM crack when back came on. I believe it was "pidegons of
poop" but I can't swear to that. Baz called him Getty Lee, baz
was wearing a RUSH t shirt. The crowd seemed to like the new
songs, with Better getting the best applause. Not many were
singing along, but seemed to enjoy the new music. There was a
little boy (8, 10?) in the front row with his dad on Finck's
side. Robin made lots of eye contact and I believe gave the
boy a pick. I'm sure the kid has a new guitar hero. Tommy
seemed to be in a good mood, I believe ROn has lost the dreds.
Sorry for rambling I am tired as fuck and wanted to get
something out to you all. BTW, Frank is one hell of a plus for
these guys. I'll tease you all with one last observation that
a bootleg may help. I swear that one of the guitar solos that
Fortis and the other guys were "mini-jamming" on was a HELL OF
A LOT like the clip we have of "Checkmate (Prostitute?). I'll
never say that it was for sure, but I'm a gambler and I know
where my money would be.

Center, Minneapolis, MN
I just got
back from the show...
It was amazing.
Helmet played Unsung. They are a great band, not really
made for arena style rock shows, though, unfortunately.
The crowd was into it, and most people stayed until the
end and were always into it. There was some drunk assholes
bitching about how "they love guns n roses but axl is an
asshole" and then they starting harassing my girlfriend
for "being so hot" (forcing me to confront them, which is
not something I want to waste my fucking time doing at a
Gn'R concert). Once WTTJ started, they shut the fuck up,
and actually left by the sixth or seventh song, being so
wasted. So that was nice
Axl and the whole band were incredibly. Everybody seemed
into it, nobody seemed to be "having a bad day" as I've
heard in other reviews. Axl was singing his heart out at
every turn, Richard, Robin, and Bumblefoot all tore it up
in fine fashion as expected. The solos were incredible.
Tommy seemed to be having a great time and as commented by
a friend of mine, Dizzy's buttcrack was in full view (to
her satisfaction)
Axl did make a joke about how we're all "tough
motherfuckers" for being able to handle the cold, and
that's why he left indiana, it was too cold. (or something
along those lines). At the end of the show, after PC, he
thanked the crowd for a great night, his voice sounded a
bit horse. Tommy said something into the mic, I couldn't
understand it, but Axl said, "and tommy thanks you too"
So, all in all, great setlist, amazing performance, I can't
wait until they come back!!
Other stuff:
Axl jumped on the piano for the blues. During a solo, Axl
put on Ron's Russian looking cap thing, and did a little
dance with it. Somebody chucked some sort of item on
stage, which axl swung around with playfully. This might
have been mentioned before, but Axl has shaved his goatee.
Earlier on during the show, Axl said something to the
effect of "Tommy said he had a lot of friends here" (Tommy
is from Minneapolis, for those who don't know). Also, when
Axl asked us to help him "sing this" on KOHD, the crowd
response wasn't so great. He said, "Is that a yes or a
fuck off?" - in a very joking and friendly manner - and
then the crowd cheered louder and got into it.
The band sounded particularly tight on Nighttrain, as
expected. I thought Axl sounded amazing on The Blues,
better than I remember at Hammerstein. His voice was solid
through the whole show.

MTS Centre, Winnipeg, MB, Canada
Axl RoseIf
you had a spelling test—or a hearing test—on your Tuesday
morning agenda, chances are you missed Monday night’s
concert at the MTS Centre. The eye-opening, ear-busting
show was definitely not for those with school night
curfews or sensitive hearing, but that’s a good thing. At
a Guns ‘n Roses concert, a healthy dose of F-bombs and
fireballs is expected. Encouraged, perhaps, if you proved
your stamina with general admission floor seats.
From 8:00pm to just after 2:00am, risqué dancers,
squealing guitars, and classic hard rock tunes kept 11,000
GnR fans rocking for six solid hours. After a skin-baring
performance by the Suicide Girls, a heavy half-hour show
from Helmet, and a 75-minute set from former Skid Row
frontman Sebastian Bach, headlining Guns ‘n Roses took to
the stage just before midnight.
Fronted by the fiery Axl Rose, GnR opened up their set
with “Welcome to the Jungle” from 1987’s Appetite for
Destruction. With two keyboardists, three guitarists, a
bassist, and a drummer in his GnR army, rock star Rose
commanded the stage and the crowd with veteran know-how.
This isn’t surprising, because the band—in all of its
permutations—has been delivering killer rock shows for
over 20 years. Although Axl is the only remaining original
member, the band was a cohesive unit onstage, covering
classic GnR tunes like “Sweet Child of Mine” and “Mr.
Brownstone” flawlessly.
Though his bandmates have changed, Axl has resisted the
ravages of time: plenty of pecs and nary a wrinkle, the
44-year-old looks better than he did decades ago. Sporting
Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, skin-tight jeans, and neatly
braided hair, Mr. Rose let his bandmates cover the grungy,
gritty aspect of rock-n-roll style.
Though he looks shiny and new, Axl’s voice is as nasal and
squealy as it ever was. That’s also a good thing. Even
through the softer tunes (and there were quite few), the
famed frontman can hit the high notes and hold the long
ones just like in his heyday.
The show was peppered with memorable moments, including a
mid-set visit by Bubbles of The Trailer Park Boys, stories
about border crossing troubles, and a handful of
lighter-lit ballads.
For at least one concert reviewer, Guns n’ Roses also
managed to clear up a long-held misconception: Turns out
“November Rain,” “Patience,” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s
Door” aren’t best enjoyed while slow dancing in Junior
High. The lighters, the crowd, and Axl’s on-stage antics
top any butterflies you — okay . . . I — may have felt in
an echoey gym. That’s a very good thing.

Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, AB, Canada
Face it folks,
no matter what your ticket stub says — no matter what Axl
Rose says — Wednesday night’s Guns N’ Roses gig at
Saddledome was not a Guns N’ Roses show. Not really.
The G N’R that scorched the earth back in the late ‘80s
was not the Axl show, it was a band, and a couple of those
former Gunners (Slash and Izzy anybody?) were arguably as
important to the venomous chemistry as Axl himself.
Wednesday night’s gig then, was a performance by the new
Axl Rose Band. Period. No matter how many Appetite For
Destruction songs they played. And G N’R is missed — big
time. This is not meant as a complete write off of the Axl
Band because their attack at the ‘Dome was undeniable.
Their spit was legit, even if their show was far too
disjointed.
Rose and his seven-piece backup group came out swinging
hard with the lethal licks of Welcome To The Jungle. Axl’s
bright orange hair was corn-rowed and pulled back angrily
tight in a pony tail. Sporting a goatee and shades,
dressed in a shiny leathery shirt and blue jeans, looking
a fair bit thicker than he used to, Rose did his trademark
snake dance and sprinted around the stage like a teen
throwing a tantrum.
Nipping at Jungle’s heels was the malicious, punk-fired
It’s So Easy followed by the junkie’s mule-kick of Mr.
Brownstone. The new band more than duplicated the seething
acid of both, not to mention the blunt force. If anything
it was Rose that was turning out to be a weak link, though
the problem seemed to be more a sound issue than an actual
vocal issue. If you listened, you could hear Rose hit the
notes with that banshee’s wail of his — but too often he
was being drowned out in the din. Even his between song
patter was hard to make out at certain points.
The few new tunes played off the eternally promised but
yet to be released album Chinese Democracy did represent
lulls in the show as far as crowd energy went. This doesn’t
necessarily speak to the quality of the material, because
much of it showed promise. It’s next to impossible to
debut an unheard song in front of 14,500 fans rabid for
the classics. If Axl wanted this stuff to make an impact
he should have released it long ago, giving it the chance
to grow on people.
Then there was the extended solos given to band members,
keyboardist Dizzy Reed and the guitarists, Bumblefoot,
Richard Fortus and Robin Finck, who looked like one of the
Children of the Corn all growed up. These guys were all
remarkable musicians, no question — but nobody came to the
‘Dome to hear soloing virtuosos they didn’t recognize.
They came to hear Guns N’ Roses and as far as that goes,
they only got a piece of the puzzle.
That’s a shame because this show had so much going for it.
Sure, the Axl Band didn’t take the stage until just before
midnight. Good on ‘em, really. Why should a hard rock band
be expected to wrap it up before 11 p.m? This is Axl Rose
not some teeny bopper group whose fans have a curfew. Not
some oldie goldie whose baby boomer devotees tucker out
early.
Clearly Rose envisioned a sleazy-fun, old-school hard rock
show and it was delivered as such, right down to the
opening acts, which included a bit of T&A from the Suicide
Girls burlesque show and the industrial proto-grunge of
Helmet (whose set was underwhelming). Then there was the
muscular hard rock bluster of ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian
Bach.
Bach, or Baz as he’s known to his fans, has become the
ultimate G N’R booster on this tour, which has revived his
career. Remember Dennis Hopper insanely preaching about
Kurtz (Marlon Brando) in Apocalypse Now? That’s Baz’s
exact relationship to Axl Rose these days.
Fortunately he channeled that manic energy into a set that
shook the ‘Dome. Critics of late have been slagging the
guy as a hair metal reject who doesn’t belong on a high
profile tour, but don’t sell Baz short because he fit this
bill perfectly, whipping fans into a froth like few modern
frontmen could with powerful rawk pipes and solid
showmanship.
Don’t get us wrong, the main event, which went on for more
than two hours, had many highlights. The menacing funk of
Rocket Queen; the beautifully rendered power ballad
November Rain; a furious duet with Baz on My Michelle; the
rootsy nastiness of Used To Love Her — these were awesome
moments. Then there was the appearance of that
bespectacled, lovable misfit Bubbles from TV’s Trailer
Park Boys, who dueted with Axl on the silly but soulful
country-flavoured cut Liquor and Whores off the Trailer
Park Boys movie soundtrack. Truly cool.
Yeah, there were plenty of standouts. But if Rose is going
to throw this grand a rock show — a show that has fans
hanging around the arena for more than six hours, he’s got
to work many a kink out of his own set. And his own ego.
Oh, and actually releasing Chinese Democracy might help
matters greatly.

Rexall Place , Edmonton, AB, Canada
Axl delivers
after long wait for fans
Guns N' Roses named its tour after an album that's, so
far, just a rumour.
So, some added pre-show drama and attention seemed only
natural. A press release this week promised a late start
for Thursday's Chinese Democracy tour stop at Rexall Place.
And considering the manic and dramatic ways of frontman
Axl Rose, we're lucky he showed up at all.
The only original member of the band won't give the world
his new record, but he still knows how to entertain,
pulling all the stops with grand pianos, pyrotechnics and
plenty of praise for Edmonton.
Rose appeared to a restless arena at 11:55 p.m., an hour
after Skid Row's ex-frontman Sebastian Bach left the
stage.
The long break saw 15,000 fans split into two camps -
bored senseless or completely inebriated.
Eventually, the lights went out and Rexall Place exploded
with cheers, almost drowning out the tribal bass beat and
echoing guitar riffs belonging to just one song - Welcome
to the Jungle.
Surrounded by an Asian motif, Rose materialized in large,
dark shades and a black leather button-up shirt, the first
of six diva-like wardrobe changes during the
two-and-a-half-hour set.
All appearances spoke to the advent of a new era for the
band - Rose's new, yet questionable hairdo, GN'R lineup
and Asian obsession. Yet an inescapable musical tether
leads back almost two decades to a time before some of
Thursday night's audience members even existed.
GN'R's debut album, Appetite for Destruction, has sold
more than 20 million copies since its 1987 release and is
solidified in rock history as the best-selling debut of
all time. It's also the source for the band's most popular
and recognizable songs and Rose skimped on none.
Interspersed by numerous guitar solos, Live and Let Die,
Sweet Child O' Mine, It's So Easy, Out Ta Get Me and
Nighttrain all appeared, with Paradise City as a closing
finale to a well-planned encore. Other decade-plus hits
delivered were November Rain, Bob Dylan's Knockin' on
Heaven's Door and the lighter-triggering Patience.
GN'R's simultaneous 1991 followups Use Your Illusion I &
II were the group's last original studio recordings. Since
then, Rose has been working on Chinese Democracy, with a
reported $15-million production price tag. Rumoured to
arrive soon, the release date has again been pushed to
next year, but Rose proved new music does exist. Three
confirmed tracks on the album were performed as well as
the title track, which kicked off the 2:15 a.m. encore.
People were slowly filtering out all evening, some even
before GN'R hit the stage. But most stayed to at least
determine one last rumour about Rose's on-stage guests for
the show. And again, the rumours were true.
Following a duet with opening act Bach, Rose introduced
his new pal, Mike Smith, known to most as Bubbles from the
Trailer Park Boys. A musician before he was an actor,
Smith and his guitar took centre-stage for his new, catchy
hit, Liquor and Whores, and most of the arena joined in.
Rose didn't spare a drop of drama for his departure,
exploding tissue rose petals with air cannons over the
crowd as he lingered in the atmosphere he obviously loves
so much.

Events Center, Everett, WA
I had such an
excellent time!! Guns took the stage at 11:41, I wish I
could tell you the setlist but I cannot remember the order
so I will let someone else have that pleasure. Axl shared
with us a small conversation about being down in Seattle
at the "Open Market" which is down on the waterfront on
Pike Street where you can get fresh seafood and so on, but
he started laughing while telling us they were calling his
name and throwing fish at him to catch, it's tradition to
throw the fish until they land in the hands that cut and
package it for the buyer, kinda funny anyway trying to
picture him catching these huge slimy fish. The venue was
about three quarters full, I didn't arrive until 10:30 or
so and could have made my way to the front without a doubt.
A handful of people were thrown out either for cameras, or
smoking weed, or whatever, they were actually pretty
strict there. We were able to get our video camera in,
almost got caught, so it finally got put away about half
way through the show, as they were onto it and obviously
we didn't want to lose it or get kicked out, so do have
some footage, haven't looked at it yet, and don't know the
quality the camera will provide due to it's size and so
on, so I'll let you guys know how it turns out. The show
was kick ass, and it was good to see them again, he gave
away half of his mike stand to some guy, my husband
offered him 500.00 bucks for it on the spot, but he said
no, and I don't blame him I wouldn't let go of the trophy
either, well for now I have to go, my kids have to go to
school on a couple hours sleep as they went with us and it
was 2:30 when we got home, ha I feel sorry for them, me,
I'm coming home and dream about last nights show until oh
around noon or 1:00.

The Rose Garden Arena , Portland,
OR
No Paradise
City on the encore!!!
Axl seemed in good spirits. Here's the highlights:
- After LALD he told a story about Paul McCartney's kid
telling his Dad how cool it was of him to cover a GNR song
- After Better he said "I know we're not supposed to talk
about it, but that was a song from our "forthcoming
album." He said it with a grin and then said something
else but nothing really of note. He was giggling and such
but it was hard to get a read on any album release hints.
- Before Patience he yelled "FUCK!!!" and then "FUCK!!!!"
again but it seemed in good fun. Like he was trying to
give be super aggresive as an intro to a slow song as a
joke.
- IRS was a highlight again but the performance in Everett
had a little more oomph.
- They played DOTF! Was another highlight. They killed it.
- Played UTLH and then into Nighttrain. Seemed like the
crowd was thinning out a little bit.
- Encore: Chinese Democracy into Madagascar......I was
loving every minute of it but it seemed like the GA crowd
wasn't giving him what he wanted.
- He said "Thank you goodnight" after Madagascar and then
the band exited the stage. After about 30 seconds the
house lights came up and that was it.
So I'm not sure why he ended the show with no PC. There
was still a good size crowd there (around 6000-7000
people) and people were loving it. Guess Portland didn't
give what he was looking for. I sure did and I rocked the
fuck out during the entire show. Better and IRS and The
Blues were all among the best performances I've ever seen.
Dizzy did "Angie" for his solo and Richard and Robin did "Angel"
again.
setlist was real similar to last night with the addition
of DOTF and the subtraction of PC. Not sure why.........

Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA
LOS ANGELES (Reuters)
- Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose gave fans an early
Christmas gift on Sunday,
when he brought out former bandmate Izzy Stradlin for five
songs during the rock group's concert in Los
Angeles.
Stradlin, who quit Guns N' Roses in November 1991 and has
lived a fairly reclusive existence ever since,
looked like a Blues Brother, decked out in dark suit,
fedora and shades. He played guitar and contributed
harmonies to "Think About You," "Used to Love Her," "Patience"
and "Nightrain," and returned for the final
tune, "Paradise City."
Stradlin has made a handful of surprise appearances at
Guns shows this year, beginning last May in New
York, and continuing during the European swing over the
summer. Until this year, he had not played with the
band since 1993, when he briefly subbed for his injured
replacement, Gilby Clarke.
The other former Gunners, guitarist Slash, bass player
Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum (a 1990
replacement for the fired Steven Adler), left during the
mid 1990s after giving up hope that the increasingly
tyrannical Rose would ever record a follow-up to 1991's
two-volume set "Use Your Illusion." In 2003, they
started their own group, Velvet Revolver.
Stradlin saw the writing on the wall during sessions for "Use
Your Illusions" when he became increasingly
estranged from Rose, his old Indiana buddy. He wrote or
co-wrote a dozen tracks, including "You Could Be
Mine" and "Don't Cry," and got out just as the albums were
released.
Sunday's concert at the Gibson Amphitheatre near Hollywood
was the first of three at the venue. The final
performance, on Wednesday, will also mark the end of a
two-month North American tour for Rose and his
largely unknown bandmates. Rose will then focus on getting
the long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album
out in stores by his target date of March 6.

Night number
two, far better than night number one. Guns N' Roses, and
lets not call them revamped or the new incarnation anymore,
was literally on fire last night in Los Angeles.
Having already seen Suicide Girls and Sebastian Bach on
Sunday, and with no real interest to ever see Helmet again,
I decided my time was better spent backstage watching
people get really drunk on free beer and wine, not pacing
themselves and forgetting this show wasn't going to start
until well after 11:30PM.
I ran into GNR familia members like Del James and Riki
Rachtman, as well as Gunners Robin Finck and drummer Frank
Ferrer, and also hanging out were Foo Fighter Taylor
Hawkins, DJ Lethal, Helmet's Paige Hamilton and various
Suicide Girls.
The show kicked with the usual wallop of "Welcome to the
Jungle" followed by "It's So Easy" and "Mr. Brownstone"
but you could tell Axl was in a way better mood than on
Sunday. He interacted more with the audience and even
cracked several jokes. And during "November Rain" the
drums actually caught on fire as a bevy of sparklers fell
from above. Some roadies immediately rushed in and put the
fire out but afterwards Axl joked that maybe Wednesday
night they'll torch the drummer. During an impromptu Deep
Purple jam Axl changed the lyrics to "smoke on the
drummer."
But the levity didn't stop there, during "Rocket Queen"
Robin slipped and unceremoniously fell flat on his back,
quickly getting up only to get hit by Axl's mic stand as
he was tossing it across the stage. You could tell Axl was
surprised but he was smiling anyways.
After roaring renditions of "Blues" and "I.R.S." it was
time to introduce Izzy Stradlin but he was a no show.
"Welcome to my world motherfuckers," Axl said as Izzy was
nowhere to be found. After playing "Out Ta Get Me" and
"Down on the Farm" (a total treat) Izzy finally came out,
thanks to GPS Axl joked. They ripped through favorites
like "Think About You," "Used to Love Her," "Patience" and
"Nightrain." As well as the show's closer "Paradise City."
It's funny how just a few more smiles and jokes can change
a whole show but Tuesday night's concert was leaps and
bounds better than Sunday which I thought was pretty
amazing. Sure, again, the solos slowed things down. Is it
just me or does anyone care that Bumblefoot can play Eddie
Van Halen's "Eruption" note for note? Why not come up with
your own signature solo? And three guitar solos really
seems like the masturbatory rock star cliché that GNR was
never about to begin with. It made me long for the days
when Buckethead's solo was him playing around with his
nunchucks just to really drive home the point of how
meaningless a solo was. But regardless, I dare anyone to
find me a more charismatic and intense performer than Axl
Rose. I know I can't wait for Night 3. Who knows what will
happen?

Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA
The first leg of
the North American tour came to an end in Los Angeles
today at 2:30 in the morning with thrills, chills and
spills. Tuesday night it was guitarist Robin Finck that
took a spill while drummer Frank Ferrer almost became a
victim of pyro gone wrong, but at Wednesday's tour
finale performance it was Axl who ate it, tumbling down
the staircase that leads to an elevated platform during
"Live and Let Die."
Shocked and embarrassed Axl's grin was ear to ear as he
struggled to get through the rest of the song without
laughing.
After Tuesday's stellar show the band was hard pressed
to top their previous efforts but they didn't disappoint.
In the holiday spirit Richard Fortus' guitar solo
included a rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little
Christmas" while Bumblefoot led the crowd in a
sing-along of "Mr. Grinch" during his solo.
Having already seen the band numerous times it was
pretty much a by-the-book show with no real surprises
but that didn't mean it wasn't any less spectacular. For
me, the highlight was the encore. You could really tell
Axl let loose while singing "Chinese Democracy,""I.R.S."
and "Madagascar" back to back. He seemed so comfortable
and energized singing the new songs. I think anyone who
wasn't familiar with those songs (if that's even
possible) must have been won over. And maybe because it
was the tour's last show Axl and Sebastian Bach really
let it all hang out during a turbo charged "My Michelle"
(with special guest Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys)
that almost brought the house down.
It was also great seeing Izzy Stradlin back onstage
during these last three shows. Always the quiet,
laidback member of GNR this time around Izzy stalked the
stage like he owned it - climbing the staircase to the
drum riser or standing tall center stage. I'm sure the
bona fide rock star response from the crowd and the band
didn't hurt. Every night Tommy, Ron, Richard
and Robin would surround him, play alongside him and
almost look at him in awe. Afterwards Robin would
usually bow down before him. After all, Izzy did help
pave the wave for these guys.
Before the show I got to speak with new drummer Frank
Ferrer who was happily guaranteeing a great show.
Although he didn't know if he's officially in the band
to stay he was still laughing about almost going up in
smoke the night before. Gunners Tommy Stinson, Dizzy
Reed and Robin Finck were celebrating before the show
along with guests Ron Jeremy and Danny Bonaduce. It's
great to see how genuinely excited these guys are to
playing in Guns N' Roses.
Hopefully we'll have our hands on Chinese Democracy come
March and hear even more new songs on future legs of the
tour. Until then, Happy New Year everybody!
